Rimini women's buttons skirt - sewing tutorial

FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS

For sewing a skirt, we recommend using any lightweight dress fabric, such as viscose, silk. Also, the skirt can be made from light cotton.

SUPPLIES

1. Main fabric with 1.40 m (55.1″) width: 1.70 (66.9″) m for all sizes;

2. Interfacing: 10 cm (3.9″);

3. Buttons: 7 pieces.

Attention! All our patterns already contain 1 cm / 0.39 in seam allowances.

SEWING INSTRUCTIONS

Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of the Front (center placket) and waistline Facing.

Serge the raw side edges of the waistline Facing, Front and Back panels. Also serge the raw edge of the skirt’s hem.

Press.

Pin the waistline Facing details together with the right sides along the short edges. Stitch. Press allowances open.

Serge the bottom raw edge of the waistline facing. Press.

Pin the darts on the Back skirt’s panel. Stitch. Press allowances to the center.

Mark the pleat lines on the Front skirt’s panel. One by one pin the pleats and stitch along the lines. Don’t forget to stitch bar tacks. Press each pleat and then from the inverted box pleat.

Press.

Fold the serged edge along the bottom hem and the side slit.

Press.

Form the corner on the skirt: Pin the sides of the future corner. Stitch or serge.

Press allowances. Turn to the right side and from the corner. Press.

Fold the bottom hem and the side slit of the skirt. Press.

Mark the start point of the side slit on the Front and Back panels.

If the fabric is too thin fuse the interfacing.

Pin the side edges of the Front and Back together with the right sides. Stitch to the start point of the side slit. Stitch bar tacks. Press allowances open.

Press the center placket.

Pin the waistline facing to the center placket together with the right sides. Pay attention to the correct position of the waistline facing. Stitch. Press allowances to the facing.

Pin the waistline facing to the garment along the upper raw edge with the right sides together. Align the notches. Stitch/serge. Press. Turn the garment to the right side, forming the proper edge. Press.

Bottom hem. Fold the serged edge, then fold the allowances. Pin and baste. Stitch to 2.5 – 3 cm from the edge. Also stitch the side slit. Press.

Mark the place of the buttonholes. Stitch the buttonholes and sew the buttons to the skirt’s left placket. Iron the garment.
